Paul Ince has apologised.
It doesn't make him a saint or a genius, but it does put him a few steps up from someone who is currently taking the piss.
And he's every right to say so.

what paul ince did at the time was stupid, but he was young and led by his agent.most people make stupid mistakes in their lives, especially the young 'uns and i'm old enough to still cringe at some of the stupid things i've done over the years.
personally i think it's long past time that we all got over the whole thing anyway.
i'm 65yrs old, west ham for 60 yrs and know for a fact that lifes too short for lingering hatred, unless it's hatred for the tottscrotes of course.
time to move on people.

Ah I see! I think certainly I'm less cynical then. Definitely huge irony in it. You could also consider that the article is mocking ince in a way if you look at it from a different angle.

Paul Ince was surely aware of the emotional reaction he would provoke amongst West Ham fans by being sanctimonious about something of which he is the apotheosis. A reaction provoked for his own entertainment: Trolling.
But either that whooshed everyone or people on this thread are less cynical about him than me.

Ince broke the 1926 dockers strike, was a Nazi collaborator and left his lights on during the blitz to guide the bombers, sank the Titanic, caused the financial crash ot 2008, convinced the breweries to ditch real ale for keg beer, made the Challenger space shuttle crash, caused Chernobyl and was at the back of the queue at Hillsborough, pissed up and pushing really hard.
Apart from that, a thoroughly decent chap.

That's not trolling. That's perfectly fine. I'd say someone taking offence to that remark is being very over sensitive. I really don't think in the context of that article that he's trying to troll West Ham.

Obviously it's only a selfie if you're the one taking a photograph of yourself. Otherwise it's just a taking picture of someone.

More likely Ince (I do know who he is by the way) feels a bit hard done by with the treatment he's had from us over the years, even though he knows he did wrong, and wants to make sure Payet gets the same treatment.
But I'd say that's a very wide definition of trolling there. I'd have thought it would also have to involve a victim who will get upset. Maybe Ince has upset you with his comments Wils, but he hasn't upset me.
In fact by that definition you would probably have to call yourself a troll, no?

Two things to be taken from this thread.
1.Ince,those of us remember the Man U shirt thing, should never forgive what he did and he deserves every bit of stick he gets.
2.NS (who I think is a decent bloke) takes every opportunity to dig out a stadium he has never been to which I find strange.

I think Paul Ince is clearly "amusing himself" and trying to provoke an "emotional response" with that comment. Maybe too subtle for this forum. Perhaps in here he needs to call someone a cunt to their face before it registers that he might be trying to wind you up.

Ince isn't trolling West Ham here. If anything he's being complimentary.
Trolling is one of those words that is increasingly misused as it becomes increasingly used. Like 'selfie'.
He's slagging off Payet, but that's not trolling.

His return to us with Man U was one the best atmosphere's I have ever known over our OLD place... just a shame he nabbed the equaliser.... I swear that was the only time he moved out of the centre circle...
